It’s Never too Early (or Late!)
to Volunteer for the 2011 Quilt Show!
There is a wide choice of volunteer opportunities available to all guild members; hopefully you will find an activity that sounds like a good fit
for you. Below you will find brief descriptions for each activity. If you would like to volunteer – simply click on that activity link and you will
go to an on line form where you can sign up for that activity as well as select the particular day and shift when you will be available to volunteer. (Note: Each position identifies the person chairing each committee
for the 2011 show. Feel free to contact them using the data from your membership roster.)
Admissions
Volunteers sit and collect the admission fee as visitors to the show enter.
(4 hour shift) Contact: Myrna Clayton.
Boutique
Volunteers sell a wide variety of items. This is a standing job and can be quite active at busy times. (4 hour shift) Contact: Kate Elliot.
Chinese Auction
One or two volunteers sit to sell tickets which are entered in drawings
for a number of very nice prizes. (4 hour shift) Contacts: Vicki Bohannon and Mary Harwell.
Customer Service
Volunteers greet the buses which bring large groups to our show. This is another somewhat active, standing job. It requires only an hour or two in the morning until all buses have arrived. Contacts: Nancy Adams and
Linda Cole.
Donation Quilt – Ticket Sales
Volunteers sit and sell tickets which are entered in the drawing to win
our donation quilt. (4 hour shift) Contacts: Marilyn Stephens,
Lou Whedbee and Nancy Madigan
Door Prizes
A volunteer sits and gives out door prizes to attendees who have a special designation in their show program. (4 hour shift) Contact: Donna Brisbin.
Hospitality
The main responsibility of Hospitality volunteers is to organize and serve lunch on Thursday to volunteers and vendors. They also make sure that beverages and leftovers are available to workers on the two other show days. Hours to be determined by the committee chair. Contact: Ann Mills.
Miniature Quilt Silent Auction
Volunteers can sit at times but are up and down at other times pinning
new bids to the miniatures. At the end of the auction, one or two
volunteers sit and collect payment for the quilts that have been purchased, while others stand and take the small quilts down from the sheets they
are pinned to and give them to their new owners. (4 hour shift) Contact: Roberta Duval.
Quilt Return
Several volunteers sit doing paperwork, while others locate quilts and return them to their owners. The latter volunteers are very active. About
1 hour after all the quilts have been taken down at the end of the show. Contact: Juanita Yager.
Quilt Show Set-Up and Take-Down
Many, many volunteers are needed to set up the show on Thursday and take it down after the show closes on Saturday. Usually there are sitting, standing, and more strenuous jobs involved on the set-up day, while
take-down jobs are all more physical. These are the times when we can use men in our efforts. No shift times. Contact: Pam Abrams.
Quilt Sale
Volunteers sit and stand selling the quilts that members have put up for sale. This is a fairly active job. (4 hour shift) Contacts: Dar Arnswald and Paula Sheron.
Quilt Take-In/Registration
Volunteers are standing for most of the time and somewhat active doing things such as measuring quilts, checking that quilts have sleeves, reviewing registration information, and pinning numbers on pillowcases. Usually takes 2-3 hours. Contacts: Kathy Medley and Dar Arnswald.
Scribe for Evaluation
Two volunteers walk with the judge as s/he evaluates quilts and record
her comments. (4 hour shift) Contact: Linda Masters.
Side Door
A volunteer sits in a chair by each of the two side doors to ensure that no one enters that way without having paid admission. Past volunteers who have done this job have found it to be an excellent opportunity to complete handwork or read. (2 hour shift) Contact: Pam Abrams.
Volunteers
One volunteer sits at a table and checks other volunteers in and directs them to the activity and location they are signed up for. (4 hour shift) Contact: Pam Abrams.
Voting – Viewer's Choice
Volunteers collect the viewers’ choice ballots from the containers where show attendees put them, take them to another location, and count the ballots. This is quite a busy activity on Saturday afternoon. (4 hour shift) Contact: Joyce Scarborough.
White Gloves
White glove ladies or men stand and show attendees the backs of quilts when requested. They give gentle reminders not to touch the quilts when necessary. (2 hour shift) Contact: Pam Abrams.
